Emily and Nathan got married at The Billabong Kuranda — 165 acres of tropical rainforest, a lily-filled billabong, and a rustic timber deck as the backdrop for a day built around colourful wildflowers and a wood-fire pizza reception.

Their story starts long before either of them realised it was one. Nathan's older brother Benji was Emily's best friend all through high school, which meant Nathan — quiet, shy, always around — was on the sidelines for years while Emily dated other people, completely unaware he'd had a crush on her the whole time. It took Benji and his wife setting up a movie night to finally get the two of them in the same room with any real intention behind it. Five years, a son named Willow, and a wedding later, it's safe to say the patience paid off.

Nathan planned the proposal entirely himself. On what Emily thought was a family trip to Adelaide to visit her best friend, they all went for a hike at Morialta Conservation Park — and at the waterfall at the end of it, while her friend distracted the kids with a "photo op," Nathan pulled out a small frame he'd made himself, preserved rose petals and gold letters spelling out Marry me? True to form, he was too nervous to say much of anything. He didn't need to — though Emily still asked him four times if he was serious before she let herself believe it.

Between Nathan's BMX career and Emily's work as a dance and gymnastics coach, their wedding day had one particular running joke: whether Emily could actually teach her own fiancé — self-described as having "zero coordination" — to pull off a first dance. Rainforest light can be a genuine challenge to photograph well, but between the wildflowers, the water, and two people who'd waited years to get here, there was no shortage of beautiful moments to catch.
