Ashlee and Bill got married at the Hilton Cairns, right on Trinity Inlet — ceremony in the chapel, reception down at Wharf One with that unbeatable water view as the sun went down. I shot the day across both digital and 35mm film, which felt fitting for two people who'd told me from the start they didn't want anything that felt like a "traditional" wedding.

Ashlee and Bill met on Tinder seven years ago — Ashlee's first and only dating app match, after a Christmas party gave her the courage to finally say yes to meeting up. What followed was blending two families (four boys between them, who get along better than anyone probably expected), a house bought together about a year ago, and a proposal at home that came with coffee, flowers, and Bill down on one knee when Ashlee least expected it.

Their wedding day vision was simple: keep it relaxed, keep it about family and close friends, skip anything that felt stiff or overly formal. And relaxed is putting it mildly — thirty minutes before the ceremony, Ashlee's dress zip broke, and a seamstress had to be called in on the spot to save the day. Most brides would've unravelled.
