Amber and Jake got married at The Gardens Club, tucked into the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens — heritage cottage charm, garden greenery, and a colour palette of whites and baby blues that suited the setting perfectly. With just one bridesmaid and one groomsman standing up with them, it was exactly the small, intimate day they'd wanted.
Amber and Jake's story started with an Instagram message from Jake back in 2017 — some playful banter that turned into an unplanned run-in at a Brisbane hotel on December 29th, where their eyes met across the room and that was that. They talked all night, swapped numbers, and after months of texting, Amber finally nudged Jake into asking her out properly. Six years on, they'd travelled Europe together for twelve months, and by the time their wedding day came around it was the next chapter in a genuinely long-running love story.
The proposal itself came with a twist Amber never saw coming. The morning of their "going away" party — the send-off for their year in Europe — Jake suggested a picnic, just the two of them, at the exact spot where Amber first realised she loved him. She thought it was a quiet moment before the chaos of the party. It turned out to be the proposal too — Jake down on one knee while she was looking for a bin, ring in hand, catching her so off guard she genuinely forgot to say yes for a moment. That night, their "going away" party quietly became an engagement party as well, in front of everyone they loved.
For the wedding itself, Amber and Jake also brought on a second photographer alongside me — and it made a real difference to the day. With getting ready, ceremony, portraits, cocktail hour and reception all packed into the coverage, having two of us meant nothing got missed: one of us with Amber and her side getting ready while the other covered Jake and his groomsmen, both perspectives of the ceremony captured at once, and all the candid moments from around the reception. For a day with this much ground to cover, it meant they walked away with a fuller, more complete record of it — not just the version one photographer alone could catch.
